Network-Based Space-Time Scan Statistics for Detecting Micro-Scale Hotspots

نویسندگان

چکیده

Events recorded in urban areas are often confined by the micro-scale geography of street networks, yet existing spatial–analytical methods do not usually account for shortest-path distance networks. We propose space–time NetScan, a new spatial–temporal analytical method with improved accuracy detecting patterns concentrations across space and time. It extends notion scan-statistic-type search window measuring space-time along networks order to detect events at street-address level high accuracy. Performance tests synthetic data demonstrate that NetScan outperforms location, shape, size duration hotspots. An empirical study drug-related incidents shows how can improve our understanding crime. Aside from some abrupt one-off incidents, many hotspots form recurrent hotbeds, implying crimes tend persist specific problem places.

Graph analysis for space-time scan statistics

The space-time scan statistic is a widely-used method for cluster detection in which both the geographic locations and the temporal length of the cluster are unknown. It relies on a cylinder scanning window in which the base represents geographic locations and the height represents the time component, simultaneously. Due to the strict shape of the scanning window, different geometries and graph...

Detecting Hotspots in Time and Space

The numerical analysis of spatial point distributions has interested academics for many years. A very early work that resulted in the famous Moran’s I statistic was that by Moran (1948). An early important collection of work on general spatial analysis is that edited by Berry and Marble (1968). The development of spatial point analysis theory is illustrated by such later books by Cliff and Ord ...

Online platform for applying space–time scan statistics for prospectively detecting emerging hot spots of dengue fever

BACKGROUND Cases of dengue fever have increased in areas of Southeast Asia in recent years. Taiwan hit a record-high 42,856 cases in 2015, with the majority in southern Tainan and Kaohsiung Cities. Leveraging spatial statistics and geo-visualization techniques, we aim to design an online analytical tool for local public health workers to prospectively identify ongoing hot spots of dengue fever ...

Identification of chromosomal translocation hotspots via scan statistics

MOTIVATION The detection of genomic regions unusually rich in a given pattern is an important undertaking in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data. Recent studies of chromosomal translocations in activated B lymphocytes have identified regions that are frequently translocated to c-myc oncogene. A quantitative method for the identification of translocation hotspots was crucial to this ...
